Hi Reader,
I came across a clip from an interview with Dr. Gabor Maté on Mel Robbins' podcast. She was telling him about a traumatic event from her childhood and he softly interrupted her and asked,
She replied, “No one.”
And Dr. Maté replied,
“There. That’s the trauma. Not just in what happened, but that you went through it all alone.”
That moment stopped me in my tracks. Because isn’t that what every parent really wants to protect their child from? Not only the bumps and bruises of life — those are inevitable and we know that's impossible — but the aloneness. The silence. The belief that they can’t come to us.
That’s what Come to Me First is about. It’s not about being a perfect parent. It’s about creating the kind of safety where your child knows they can bring you anything — the messy, the painful, the truth — and still be met with love.
When we give our children connection and safety now, we’re not just shaping their present — we’re preventing the kind of pain that happens in isolation.
Join me for Come to Me First — four days of learning how to make your presence their refuge.
We start November 17.
